Bio-Fertiliser and Bio-Pesticide
Vermicompost
Vermicomposting is using the worms to break down the food which you feed them into rich nutritious material which could be used to make bio-fertilizer which would be made using the castings of the worms and also making bio-pesticide which is also made by using castings.
Castings is the food that has been broken down by the worms.

Casting
The casting
When you have harvested the worms and keep on feeding them, they break down the food and this is called castings, The casting is harvested when the bin is full and you take out the bottom most layer, so this means that you take out the first layer which will have the worms and the food, safely put that to one side and then harvest the humous material which is the broken down food, This is the casting as mentioned above.
The casting can be used as Bio fertilizer and Bio Pesticide, but there are some regulations to follow.
How to make Bio-Pesticide
Worm-tea
For Bio Pesticide,
You make Worm tea using the castings.
How to make worm tea.(Bio Pesticide)
1. Take a 20 liter bucket.
2. Add a handful of castings in the bucket.
3. Add some molasses. You can add as much as you want, but add a reasonable amount of the molasses.
4. Add some water till you fill the top.
5. Aerate it for two days. You can use an air pump or some kelp to provide oxygen for the aeration
6. Spray on leaves or water the plants using the worm tea since it can also act as a booster.
*As mentioned in number 6, worm tea can also be used as a plant booster.
The worm tea is liquid that has a lot of bacteria in it once the molasses has been put and it is aerated for two days. The bacteria help fight off the insects which helps as a Bio Pesticide.
~ The worm tea must be used within two hours.
~If you want to use the remaining worm tea again then you must add more molasses and aerate for two more days.
How to make Bio-Fertiliser
January 1, 2023
For the Bio Fertilizer.
How to make the Bio Fertilizer
1. Take 10% - 20% of casting and mix with soil. This is because using casting alone is very dangerous and has the potential to burn the plant.
2. You can add some water to the soil and casting mixture to make it moist.
3. Apply the casting how you would apply the fertiliser, around your plants or in rows of where your plants are.Â
~The casting is harvested from the worm bin, it can be found on the bottommost layer of the worm bin.Â
~Casting has no sign of food in it, since it is all broken down.
Therefore, the castings can be used to make Worm tea which can be used a pesticide and castings itself can be used as a Fertiliser.
